In this workshop, award-winning author Paula Yoo will discuss the importance — and the growing need — of teaching Asian American history in classrooms by showcasing the research behind her latest YA nonfiction books on the 1982 killing of Vincent Chin which became the first federal civil rights case on behalf of an Asian American and the 1992 Los Angeles uprising and the relationship between the Korean American and Black communities before, during, and after the civil unrest.
Paula Yoo is a book author, TV writer/producer, and musician whose accolades include the National Book Award Longlist for Young People’s Literature, the Boston-Globe Horn Book Award, and the YALSA Excellence in Nonfiction Honor.
