About Me

I was born in Philadelphia and raised in Brookline, Massachusetts (a suburb of Boston). I have been teaching since 1974, and I love working with middle school students! :-) My first eight teaching years were spent in Wisconsin, and when I moved to Texas with my husband, I taught at Hill Country Middle School ( West Ridge was not yet built!). I have been teaching at West Ridge since the school opened, working with the Gifted and Talented Program and teaching the Above and Beyond elective class.  

I also serve as the Eanes ISD district coordinator for the Destination Imagination International Creative Problem-Solving Organization, and sponsor for the campus Future City Engineering Program, Model UN, Elementary School STEAM Days, and the Student Stock Market Game. In addition, I continue to serve as Co-Organizer and Lead Mentor for the TEDxAustin and TEDxAustin Youth events each spring.

I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and completed graduate studies at both UW and also the University of Minnesota. I love to learn and take advantage of educational conferences and workshops here and abroad!

My hobbies include reading, cooking, collecting paperweights, and travel. I continue to lead students/families/community members on trips two or three times per year to a variety of international locations. We’ve been to Costa Rica, Croatia, France, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Egypt, Jordan, England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, Turkey, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Germany, China, Australia, New Zealand, and Russia as well as a variety of domestic locations. I have also personally traveled to Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Israel, Singapore, Qatar, UAE, Iceland, and Japan.  

My husband Stephen is a University of Texas professor (former Associate Dean of Academic Affairs) at the College of Communications. We have two wonderful sons. Aaron graduated from Rice University, completed post-grad fellowships in Cairo and Damascus, completed a Master's Degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. , and an MBA from Rice University.  He and his wife Kate currently reside in Virginia.  They have twin eight-year-old sons, James and Danny, and a three year old daughter Elisabeth. Our younger son Daniel graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Visual Communication, completed his Master's Degree at UT-Austin in Speech-Language Pathology, and is currently the Associate Director for Stuttering Education and Research at the Blank Center for Stuttering Education at UT-Austin.
