Course Overview

This English IV AP course provides a stimulating college-level class that encourages students to develop lifelong reading, writing, and thinking habits while also preparing them to take the AP Literature and Composition Exam in May.

Class Calendar

This calendar will provide major assignment deadlines and a daily summary of class work. You can click to open it in a new window and can also add it to your own Google Calendar.

Class Materials

  • Charged iPad or laptop.

  • Copies of the texts we read.

  • Independent reading novel (physical copy recommended for a break from screen time).

  • Pens, pencils, and highlighters (suggested for a break from screen time).

  • Composition notebook (suggested for a break from screen time).

Google Classroom

Westlake High School utilizes the Google Classroom platform to share classroom resources, many assignments, and assessment preparation materials to students. WHS students will receive a classroom code to access these materials, submit assignments, and track any missing work.

Turnitin.com

WHS students will use turnitin.com to submit writing assignments and will receive a classroom code to join our course section. Turnitin.com checks for originality and provides a platform for digital feedback on writing assignments. Most assignments will be returned via turnitin.com with a digital rubric attached.

Resources For Reading

Students will have a significant amount of choice in what they read this year because of our independent reading program and choice novel study units. There is no official AP Literature book list from College Board, but below are some links to great places to begin browsing books. We will also discuss book recommendations in class throughout the year.
