Kitty Mellenbruch

Welcome to Westlake High School and English I Pre AP.

This is my 30th year teaching and my 30th year as part of the Westlake High School Family.

I was born in Misawa, Japan at the tail end of my father’s career in the United States Air Force, so I didn’t do as much traveling and relocating as my five siblings. However, because my family settled in Austin in 1972, I consider myself an almost native Austinite.

I attended Texas State University in San Marcos where I majored in English and minored in Speech Communication. I did my student teaching right here at Westlake High School and joined the talented Westlake staff in 1991.

I married my high school sweetheart in 1993 after he proposed to me while I was teaching Romeo and Juliet to my 4th period class. We have two incredible children who are both graduates of Westlake High School. Meagan went on to attend Texas State University and graduated with a degree in Marketing. Justin is currently attending Texas A&M pursuing a degree in Agricultural Business and playing football for the Aggies.

My family lives on a working ranch/farm between Austin and Bastrop. We produce pecans and hay and maintain a small herd of cattle. In addition to the cattle, we have six horses, two miniature donkeys and five dogs. Last year, I added bees to the mix and have been taking classes and learning about the amazing world of beekeeping.

Outside of school, I enjoy time with my family and critters, reading, card making, gardening and canning.

I am excited to help you start your amazing journey at Westlake High School.
