German 3
Course Overview
This is a pre-college-level course which prepares students for real-life scenarios and the upcoming AP examination. As such, this class is rigorous and requires students to assume responsibility for their own learning and quality of work. Pre-AP German 3 requires students to study vocabulary, grammar, and culture outside of class to make the time in class as productive as possible.

Course Objectives
Communicate in German
Gain knowledge & understanding of culture
Develop insight into the nature of language and culture
Grade Categories
Daily = 30%
Includes practice activities, online practice, and formative assessments
Quizzes = 20%
Either writing or speaking, depending on the current area of study and larger/more complex practice activities
Major = 50%
Includes projects, longer format production, tests, et cetera
Absent work
Daily work: See Google Classroom for missed work and complete it ASAP.
Quizzes/tests: Can be made up the next day in class or within five days of the absence, as according to WHS policy
Absent before the quiz/test: You have to take it if it was announced when you were there and if you did not miss new material.
Late work
up to a 70 if turned in before the major assessment the work is related to
Retakes
Students are allowed one retest per grading period.
The highest possible grade a student may earn on a retest is a 70.
For eligible tests, students have 5 school days from when the grade is issued / posted to complete the retesting process.
It is the student’s responsibility to initiate the tutorial and retesting process with his/her teacher.

Westlake High School utilizes the Google Classroom platform to share classroom resources, many assignments, and assessment preparation materials to students. WHS students will receive a classroom code to access these materials, submit assignments, and track any missing work.
