This course develops further understanding of algebra concepts and skills including algebraic thinking and symbolic reasoning, using functions to represent and model problem situations, and setting up and solving equations and inequalities using a variety of representations and methods. The use of various mathematical processes and tools is emphasized.
Google Classroom: Notes, homework and keys, extra resources, links, and calendars are posted here.
Other Apps/Websites We Will Use: Desmos, Quizizz, Kahoot!
Skyward: Grades are recorded only in Skyward. Students should check Skyward at least once a week to see their posted grades, missing assignments, and average.
Materials:
Binder/multi pocket keeper, paper, pencils, eraser. Students should keep notes for the semester to review for the final exam.
School issued iPad
TI-84 Graphing Calculator is highly recommended
Grading Policy: Each reported quarterly grade will be calculated with the following weights:
Daily Grades – 40% Daily grades will be graded homework assignments, in-class activities, learning checks, and class participation. There will be 2-4 daily grades per week.
Major Grades – 60% Major grades include assessments and projects. There will be 3-6 major grades per quarter.
No retests will be given. However, students who score below a 75 on any assessment will have the opportunity to make corrections for up to half of lost points back. You are responsible for coming in during tutorials or after school to make corrections, or arranging to do them in Path. Students have until the following assessment to make corrections.
Semester Average: Your semester averages will be recorded on your official transcript. They are calculated with the following weights:
Each quarter (2 per semester) is 40% (quarters are indicated as RC1, RC2, RC3 and RC4 in Skyward)
Final exam is 20%
Homework: Practice will be assigned regularly and usually will be graded on completion. Any practice not finished in class should be completed as homework. To get full credit on practice assignments all questions must be answered and all processes/steps must be shown.
Late Policy: Any assignment not turned in on the due date will be recorded as a zero in Skyward. Late assignments may be turned in within the quarter for a maximum grade of 70.
