History of Rock and Roll

Course Overview

The History of Rock and Roll explores the development and significance of Rock and Roll in its historical and social context, including an overview of ancestors and influences, such as Blues and Gospel; musical and social trends of the 1960’s, such as the British Invasion, Surfer music, and the role of music in political protest; analysis of changes in Rock & Roll during the ‘70’s, ‘80’s and ‘90’s; and an exploration of current musical trends and icons. It's thought of by many as the best elective at Westlake H.S.
