Syllabus


  • Course Objectives

    • Communicate in French
    • Gain knowledge & understanding of culture
    • Develop insight into nature of language and culture
    • Develop insight into the nature of language and culture
  • Grade Categories

    • Daily = 20%
      • Includes practice activities, online practice, and formative assessments
    • Skills Development = 40%
      • Production - Either writing or speaking, depending on the current area of study and larger/more complex practice activities
    • Major = 40%
      • Includes projects, longer format production, tests, et cetera
  • Absent work

    • Daily work: See agenda and Google Classroom for missed work and complete it ASAP.
    • Quizzes/tests: You’ll take it in class the day after the quiz. If absent again or I cannot give it for various reasons, you’ll take it in tutoring.
    • Absent before the quiz/test: You have to take it if it was announced when you were there and if you did not miss new material.
  • Late work

    • Max 70% until day of test or end of marking period, whichever is first. Then 0.
  • Retakes

    • World Language Department Retest Policy
    • Students are allowed at least one retest per grading period, in accordance with your target language’s specific guidelines.
    • The highest possible grade a student may earn on a retest is a 70.
    • For eligible tests, students have 5 school days from when the grade is issued / posted to complete the retesting process.
    • It is the student’s responsibility to initiate the tutorial and retesting process with his/her teacher.

Rules are in place to provide a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment. Non-compliance could result in parent contact or a referral.
    • Bring materials to class: Ipad!!!
    • Stay on task
    • Participate
    • Follow school rules and policies
    • Keep phone in assigned pocket
    • Keep headphones/earbuds away and out of sight
    • Be kind, patient, and polite

Google Classroom

Westlake High School utilizes the Google Classroom platform to share classroom resources, many assignments, and assessment preparation materials to students. WHS students will use the following codes to access these materials, submit assignments, and track any missing work. Parents can add themselves as guardians but cannot join the class itself.
