Honors Algebra I
Course Overview
This course emphasizes the development of skills, techniques and applications that deal with number relations, linear equations, formulas, polynomials, graphing, systems of equations, factoring, rational expressions, data analysis, quadratic, and exponential functions. Students will learn the skills associated with the mathematical process TEKS: problem-solving, appropriate use of tools, mathematical communication, multiple representations, reasoning, proof, and justification. Successful completion of this sequence will prepare students for entry into a geometry course.
In addition to the content specified in the Algebra I course description (see above), the honors sequence focuses on application of concepts in a problem-solving environment. Successful completion of this sequence will prepare students for entry into a geometry course.
Level Changes: Students can change levels in a course by doing a schedule change request with their counselor until September 27th. Please talk with your teacher prior to making this decision. After September 27th students may not change levels in a course until the semester break.

Required Class Materials
School issued iPad (charged and ready for class everyday)
Apple Pencil (if you would like to do notes on your iPad)
A spiral/binder to take notes if you would rather take notes using pencil and paper (How you take notes is your choice)
Binder or folder for organization of notes, class work, and homework
A pencil
TI-84 Calculator
Calculators are available in the library for check out (form required from the library)
It is likely that this will be required in future math courses and in college
Desmos (online graphing calculator) bookmarked on iPad
Google Classroom
Westlake High School utilizes the Google Classroom platform to share classroom resources, many assignments, and assessment preparation materials to students. WHS students will receive a classroom code to access these materials, submit assignments, and track any missing work.
