Hello! My name is Katie Darilek - yes, you're right, it is a strange last name. It's Czech and pronounced DARSH-UH-LECK, but most people know me as Ms. D. As of June 29, 2025, I am married! My full name is Katie Darilek Pereira, but here at school I will continue to go by Darilek.
Born and raised in Austin, TX, I come from a family of teachers and coaches that taught in Eanes ISD. I grew up in this district and attended Barton Creek Elementary, West Ridge Middle School, and graduated from Westlake High School. Once a Chap, always a Chap!
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from Texas A&M University (WHOOP! Gig'em Aggies!) and my Master of Arts degree in Museum Studies from John Hopkins University.
I consider myself a lifelong learner and my love of learning is the reason why I became a teacher! My family and friends would best describe me as a "did you know..." or "fun fact!" type of person - random weird knowledge is my jam!
In my free time I enjoy reading, camping at Garner State Park (a family tradition), going to the lake to wake surf, hiking in the greenbelt, attending Texas A&M football games, watching the Astros and Spurs, and spending time with friends and family.
This is my 10th year working in Special Education, my 7th year teaching Collaborative World Geography, and 1st year coaching volleyball!
Looking forward to a great year!
