Below you will find more information about the band department at Westlake High School. We offer a robust and rich tradition in band, including a nationally ranked competitive Marching Band, three Concert Ensembles, an award-winning Jazz Band, three Symphony Orchestras, multiple chamber ensembles, and many opportunities for students to explore solo performance opportunities. Our Color Guard program (EVE) is both nationally and internationally award-winning and regarded as one of the top performing ensembles of its kind in the United States!
For the Fall, all students and families should refer to the Westlake Band Handbook as our class syllabus for Marching Band. It contains important information about attendance policies for rehearsals and performances, uniforms, rehearsal procedures, and grading policies. The handbook also contains information about band culture and expectations for the entire school year for student behavior for the band program.
You can find all of the dates for the entire school year (rehearsals and performances for Marching Band!!) on our Westlake Band Calendar. It is the responsibility of the student to plan ahead and be present at all rehearsals and performances. Absences from rehearsals can negatively impact grades and loss of performance privileges.
Students should have all required materials for every class and rehearsal. A preparation grade will be assigned weekly for having materials in all rehearsals. It is ultimately the student's responsibility to keep up with all the materials/equipment needed for their success in band classes and rehearsals. Please refer to equipment lists sent out over the summer that detail all required materials for each section/instrument.
Westlake High School utilizes the Google Classroom platform to share classroom resources, many assignments, and assessment preparation materials to students. WHS students will receive a classroom code to access these materials, submit assignments, and track any missing work.Â
