I am originally from Vietnam. My family and I immigrated to the United States in 1975 when I was seven years old. I grew up California. In 2006 my husband and I relocated to Texas. We have two grown sons. Traveling is what I love to do. One of my favorite places to visit is Sydney, Australia. The beautiful, sunny beaches and the easy-going people make it a welcoming place to visit over and over again. I also enjoy going to the movies and cooking for family and friends. A writer once wrote - "You are a unique moment in history. It is your uniqueness that makes you who you are. What are you going to do to deserve that uniqueness?" This is one of my favorite quotes. The message is quite simple and poignant - we are unique because of the talent(s) we possess. Do something useful and purposeful with your talent(s). Go out there and make a difference for the betterment of humanity. As teachers, this is what we do every day. We tirelessly teach, nurture, guide and inspire each child. I've always known that I wanted to be an educator since I was in the sixth grade. My teacher, Mr. Graf, was the kind of teacher you remember for a lifetime. He knew how to make learning fun, had a great sense of humor, and truly cared about his students. He is my inspiration, and he is the reason I became a teacher. I began my teaching career in 1998. I have taught second, third, fourth grade GT and sixth grade. What I love most about my profession is seeing how far I can challenge my students to work to their fullest potential. They amaze me every time, and it is always so very gratifying to see how proud they are of their accomplishments. I also believe that every child needs to feel safe and nurtured in order to thrive. Teaching is my passion, and I am thrilled to be a part of this stellar school, Eanes Elementary.
Philosophy
1. Each child grows and develops in a sequential manner at his/her own pace. Each stage of development requires more complex behavior thought process by the child. This new stage is built upon firm establishment of the previous stage. A quality program means meeting the needs of the total child - social, emotional, physical, and intellectual.
2. Children learn by interacting with, observing, and experiencing the world of objects and people. They organize these experiences and observations into meaningful relationships.
3. Each child is curious and actively initiates his/her own learning. The most meaningful and lasting knowledge is constructed by the child.
4. A child's self-esteem is based on pride in his/her culture, appreciation of his/her feelings, celebration of his/her uniqueness, and experiences with success. Each child should respect and appreciate differences in others.
5. The child's family is the primary influence on the child's growth and development. The school and community enrich each child by offering additional, new, or different experiences.
