Welcome to 4th grade Spanish Immersion!
Bienvenidos a 4o de primaria. I am so happy to have the opportunity to work with your child this year. My family and I moved to Austin four years ago from Mexico City and have greatly enjoyed getting to know this wonderful community. I was born in Mexico, and spent most of my childhood moving between Dallas, Tx. and Mexico City. For this reason, I genuinely feel that I am from two countries. My family can often be heard moving in and out from English to Spanish, often in the same conversation! My husband and I met and married in Mexico City, and have three sons, ages 19, 15 and 13.
I spent the early part of my career teaching upper level social studies. However, as the years went by, I often found myself looking over at the primary years students, and wishing to work with little ones. Eventually, this led me to return to school, to complete an MSEd. with a concentration in literacy. Since then, I have taught 2nd and 4th grade at the American School Foundation in Mexico City. Although I have had a long career teaching at many levels and age groups, I feel most at home in the elementary classroom, especially in the 4th grade. This will be my third year teaching at BCE, and it has rapidly become like a second home to me. As an educator, I strive to provide each of my students with a learning environment that is both challenging and nurturing, that will help each child grow as an individual. I take this responsibility very seriously, and am committed to giving my students the very best of me.
When I’m not in the classroom, I can often be found shuttling my sons around to soccer practice and games. I am also a passionate traveler, and love collecting experiences and memories from around the world. I am always on the lookout for our next adventure, and enjoy planning a trip as much as going on one. We have a dog and a cat whom we love very much, and keep us on our toes. We also love getting outdoors, whether on the water or on a hike, and spending time with family and friends. I can't wait to build a classroom community with my students and their families, and look forward to getting to know you all.
