Hello students!
My name is Rebekah Ellis, and I teach 6th grade English Language Arts at West Ridge Middle School. I’ve been an educator for 25 years - 17 of those at Valley View Elementary and the rest right here at West Ridge. I’ve known I wanted to be a teacher since my very first day of kindergarten, and every year since has confirmed it’s exactly where I’m meant to be!
In addition to teaching, I serve as the English Department Chair, run our busy and vibrant Student Council, and coach two UIL Writing teams. I love helping students find their voice, their confidence, and their curiosity through reading and writing.
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Development from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s in Education from Texas State University. Though I’ve lived in Austin for most of my adult life, I now live in Dripping Springs - and I’ve fully embraced the transition from city mouse to country mouse! These days, I’m happiest at home with my two pups: my Chihuahua Sebastian (18) and my Cairn Terrier Chesnut (12). They are the heartbeat of my daily life!
I am a devoted reader. Some of my favorites include Ender’s Game, The Giver, The Shape of Thunder, Harry Potter (I’m a proud Slytherin), The Hunger Games, and The Lord of the Rings. I also love to write short stories and poetry every chance I get!
I come from a small but meaningful family circle, including my brother, my dad, and a wonderful group of nieces and nephews who call me Pebbles - a nickname that always makes me smile!
Thanks for taking the time to get to know me—I’m so happy you’re here! Now, I’d love to learn about you! If you’ve read this far, send me a quick email with a little bit about yourself, and I’ll have a sweet welcome gift waiting for you when school starts. I can’t wait to hear your story!
Sincerely,
Ms. Ellis
