Overview
Pre Athletics:
The purpose of 6th Grade Pre-Athletics is to prepare students for the expectations of 7th and 8th grade athletics and to teach the fundamental skills for sports offered at Westlake High School. The 4 focus areas of this course are: (1.) Building a champion (academics, teamwork, character, competitor), (2.) Increase strength training confidence, technique, and explosion, (3.) Improve speed and agility through balance, running form, body awareness, and stamina drills, and (4.) Teaching sport-specific movements, fundamentals, and schemes.
Students participating in Pre-Athletics must recognize that the workouts will be comparable to the workouts given to our 7th and 8th grade student-athletes. The physical demands are greater than Physical Education, and the expectation is to give your best every day. Coaches expect students to work hard, have a positive attitude, and have fun just like you will be doing on a team.
PE:
The goal of the Hill Country Middle School physical education classes is to introduce and teach the basic fundamentals of various individual and team related activities as well as health and fitness activities. Our Physical Education Staff would like to give individuals a basic knowledge of how to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.
Uniforms
Each student will need to purchase a PE uniform from the Hill Country MS website. Uniforms are mandatory and dressing out daily will be a part of each athlete's overall grade.
Lockers/Locks
Students will be assigned a locker with a combination lock for their clothes and valuables. It is the athletes responsibility to secure their belongings in their lockers! HCMS/Eanes ISD is not responsible for stolen or missing items. Lockers should be shut/locked during the period.
Locker Rooms
The locker room is only to be used by students before school, after school, and during the period. Students are expected to follow all locker room expectations/procedures. Locker rooms are to be kept clean. NO food or drink (besides water) is allowed in the locker room.
To Be Excused From Participation
For a student to be excused from participation for more than three days they must bring a note from their physician stating why and what activity should be limited or avoided. The note must include: First/last name, dates to be excused, reason, date to return to activity, and physician signature. The student must still dress out unless specifically limited from doing so by the physician.
Grading
Students will be graded on dressing out in assigned gear, participation, and effort throughout the 4 areas of focus listed about. Eighty percent of the total grade will consist of the following: dressing out, participation and skill assessments. Twenty percent of the total grade will consist of a combination of teamwork, attitude and effort.
