Response to Intervention Math

Class Objective:

Response to Intervention was designed as a preventative framework using student data from screening measures to identify those students needing immediate instructional support. Progress monitoring and multi-level instruction with differentiation will enable improved student outcomes.

Through the balanced approach of both teacher and student-led instruction you will have the opportunity to communicate mathematically daily. Together in cooperative groups, you will work through activities, examples, and exercises to understand and use the language of mathematics daily. Together you will jointly find solutions with your peers. When you are working cooperatively, always be willing to listen to each other, to actively participate, to ask each other questions, and to help each other when asked.

Materials:

Students will be given all materials in class. These materials will stay in the classroom in their personal cumulative binder. Students are welcome to take any materials they feel would be useful to support them in their general education math class. Daily students will need pencils, a fully charged IPAD, and a charged TI-84 calculator (8th grade ONLY). Calculators are available to be checked out in the library.

Typical Class Day:

  1. Homework Review from Gen Ed Class (5-10 min)

  2. Teacher-Led Introduction to Topics (10 min)

0% Diagnostic and Pre-Tests: A Diagnostic Test and Pre-Test will be taken for every chapter and noted in Skyward. Neither of these tests will be weighted in the 9-week average. 60% In-Class Lesson/Activity

40% Mid-Chapter Checks and Chapter Tests

Retesting Policy:

If you fail a test, you can retake a test for up to a grade of 70%. You must complete the following in order to retake the failed test.

  1. Correct failed problems fully by showing all work.

  2. Turn in corrections to the teacher 2 days prior to a retake (in order to allow time for the teacher to address any additional mistakes with the student).

  3. Schedule and complete the test retake within 1 week of receipt of the failed test.
