About Me

I am so happy to be joining the Westlake High School community as your new Spanish teacher! My name is Irene Hidalgo, and I'll be teaching Spanish 1 and 2. This is my 16th year in education, and I've come full circle, returning to high school after teaching at the elementary level for several years. I've taught at both the high school and elementary level at Cedar Creek Elementary as a Spanish immersion teacher in 3rd and 5th grades. I was born and raised right here in Austin. My two sons, Diego (a junior) and Isaiah (a freshman), keep me busy and proud. We love to spend our time outdoors and stay active. I believe learning a new language opens up new worlds, and I can't wait to start this journey with all of you. It's going to be a great year!
