Course Overview

Welcome to Eighth Grade English Language Arts (ELA)!

This year, students will spend one period per day in English. The focus of the class will be writing, reading a variety of genres, an analysis of literature, vocabulary, and a working knowledge of grammatical structures. These units are based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

Required Materials/Class Supplies

Students are expected to bring the following to class every day:

Writer's Notebook
A novel for independent reading
Writing utensils
Charged iPad and earbuds
