Pre-Athletics and Physical Education is a vital part of a complete education. Students involved in the Physical Education curriculum will be in activities that can enhance their academic performance and classroom behavior throughout the school day. Increasing health knowledge and developing healthy behaviors in our students helps them become well-rounded individuals. Students will be introduced to and participate in activities that will help them remain active through a lifetime, learn to set and achieve health related goals, and work with others in multiple situations.
Pre-Athletics
This course is a must for any student wishing to become involved in athletics during their career in Eanes ISD schools. The main focus of the Pre-Athletics program is to provide students with a preview of upcoming UIL sports in which they will be eligible to participate as 7th graders and to prepare them for the expectations associated with all aspects of Eanes ISD athletics.
In addition, we will be promoting a high standard of excellence and achievement both in the classroom and on the field of play. We expect our student athletes to conduct themselves as positive role models and be the best, well behaved students in our school. Students will also be introduced to concepts of UIL academic requirements and how they affect extracurricular participation. By introducing these concepts early, we feel that our student athletes will see future rewards as they pursue both their academic and athletic goals and dreams.

Doctor’s notes, school nurse notes, notes from home:
● All doctor, school nurse notes, and notes from home are considered absences from participating in class. Students will either do an alternative assessment or will need to make up class to be assessed.
● Notes from home should accompany a student if unable to participate that day and are only good for 1 week. Days would still need to be made up.
● A doctor’s note that states the student’s need to refrain from participation for two weeks or longer is considered a chronic illness or injury. An alternative assessment will be given. PLEASE ASK DOCTORS TO INCLUDE WHAT YOU CAN DO.
● All doctor’s notes should be given to the school nurse prior to attending class. The nurse will document and notify the PE teacher of the length of the absence. Alternative activities will be provided for students with minor injuries or illnesses.
Guiding Practices:
● Multiple and Varied Assessment Opportunities (including Retakes)
● All students should have multiple assessment opportunities to demonstrate higher levels of achievement. The opportunities may be initiated by the instructor or the student, but always at the instructor’s discretion.
● Additional opportunities may include retakes of an alternate form of an assessment (e.g., Form B instead of Form A), student revisions of work products based on descriptive feedback, or alternative methods of assessments (e.g., an oral response rather than a written test).
