Hi Fourth Grade Families! My name is Kerri Fulginiti. I could not be more excited to join the staff of Eanes Elementary this year as a math and science teacher. I come from a family of educators. I have loved teaching from the start. In the classroom I strive to maintain high expectations, provide engaging activities and deliver meaningful instruction. My goal is to provide fourth graders with a collaborative learning environment that fosters life long curiosity and a love of learning. We are mathematicians and scientists studying the world and communicating our findings!
This is my first year back to full time teaching in several years. Previously, I taught fourth grade at Aldine ISD in Texas for two years. I later spent ten years in Fairfax County Public Schools, VA teaching fourth grade, fifth grade, and as a Gifted and Talented Resource Teacher. Throughout my teaching experience I also mentored new teachers, served as a Cognitive Coach for other teachers, and worked as a Professional Development School lead. My work in educational research in math pedagogy allowed me to collaborate with faculty at George Mason University. This research provided opportunities to travel to Korea, Greece, and Canada to share our findings. Finally, I traveled to Japan as part of an educational exchange as a Fulbright Memorial Fund scholar.
Travel has provided me with so many unique experiences. The most important was meeting my husband Dinh while studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain in college. Together we have three children who all started at Eanes Elementary when we arrived in Austin less than three years ago. Before moving here we were living in Tokyo and Singapore.
I look forward to getting to know and learn from this class. I know we will really grow! Families, students, and teachers all have a role to play. Together we can have a great 2025-2026 school year!
THIS WEEK: Week 6 (September 15 - 19)
MATH: This week in math we are building on our knowledge of decimals. We are working on rational numbers on a number line and relating decimals to fractions. The students will use number lines to mark fractions and decimals accurately on a number line and look at a marked place on a number line and identify its decimal value to the nearest tenth or hundredth. They will also be relating decimals to fractions with a denominator of 10 or 100.
Helpful terms to know: decimal, tenths, hundredths, number line, interval place value, model, fraction, numerator, denominator
SCIENCE: 4.6B/C- Scientists will learn about mixtures and solutions using liquids and solids. Students will conduct an experiment to engage with and analyze the differences between solutions and mixtures.
Vocabulary: mixtures, solutions, liquid, solid, matter, matter conservation
