"A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees." - Amelia Earhart
I am thrilled to be teaching fourth grade at Eanes Elementary for the 2025-2026 school year. I whole heartedly believe that my students are capable of learning, doing, and achieving exceptional goals. Supporting their growth and observing how their confidence blossoms throughout the year is an honor to cultivate and guide. Parents, let's work together to help these young thinkers, communicators, and visionaries experience their greatness during fourth grade and beyond.
"The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you." - B.B. King
Our Classroom Contract! We will:
Engage with kindness.
Show respect to each other.
Create a safe & supported space.
Be inclusive.
Believe that everyone’s voice matters.
Be extra kind when we notice that a person is feeling down and could use some uplifting energy.
Do the right thing, even when nobody's watching.
This week in math, students are beginning our Whole Number Operations: Strategies & Modeling unit with a focus on division models and strategies. Students will explore division through concrete and visual models to build a strong conceptual understanding. They will represent division situations using equal groups, arrays, and area models while connecting division to multiplication.
Helpful terms to know: division, equal groups, array, area model, quotient, dividend, divisor, multiplication, equation, remainder, model
This week, students will continue to deepen their understanding of division models and strategies. They will solve one- and two-step division problems and practice interpreting remainders in real-world situations. Emphasis will be placed on choosing efficient strategies and explaining their thinking.
Helpful terms to know: quotient, remainder, equation, strategy, model, dividend, divisor, multiplication, division, word problem
Students will continue working with multiplication and division problem solving, focusing on applying strategies to one- and two-step word problems. They will use models, equations, and reasoning to justify their solutions and explain how multiplication and division are related.
Helpful terms to know: factor, product, quotient, equation, strategy, model, remainder, multiplication, division, word problem
This week, students transition into Whole Number Operations: Application by exploring number patterns. They will identify, extend, and analyze patterns involving operations. Students will describe patterns using rules and apply their understanding to solve problems.
Helpful terms to know: pattern, rule, operation, input, output, sequence, multiplication, addition, subtraction, division
Students will focus on problem solving using all four operations. They will represent multi-step problems using strip diagrams and equations with a letter representing the unknown. Emphasis will be placed on choosing the most effective strategy and checking for reasonableness.
Helpful terms to know: multi-step problem, strip diagram, equation, unknown, strategy, add, subtract, multiply, divide
This week, students will continue solving multi-step word problems involving the four operations. They will apply their understanding to real-world situations and explain their reasoning using models and equations.
Helpful terms to know: equation, variable, strip diagram, strategy, estimate, solve, reasonableness, operation
Students will begin learning about area and perimeter. They will find the area and perimeter of rectangles using multiplication and addition strategies and connect these concepts to real-world contexts.
Helpful terms to know: area, perimeter, rectangle, square units, length, width, multiply, add
This week, students will focus on elapsed time. They will solve problems involving time intervals using number lines, clocks, and equations. Students will practice determining start times, end times, and elapsed time.
Helpful terms to know: elapsed time, interval, start time, end time, clock, number line, hours, minutes
Students will explore measurement concepts, including length, weight, and capacity. They will solve real-world problems involving measurement conversions and apply appropriate tools and strategies.
Helpful terms to know: measurement, length, weight, capacity, unit, convert, tool, estimate
This week, students will continue applying measurement skills and reviewing whole number operations. Students will integrate problem-solving strategies from throughout the quarter as they prepare for upcoming assessments.
Helpful terms to know: measurement, strategy, operation, review, estimate, solve, model
This week in science, students are finishing up our Patterns in Space unit. Students will collect and analyze data to identify patterns related to changes in seasons, including temperature and the length of daylight. They will also observe and analyze data to identify patterns in the changing appearance of the Moon as seen from Earth. Students will use these patterns to make predictions and explain how patterns repeat over time.
Helpful terms to know: pattern, season, temperature, daylight, Moon phases, observe, data, predict, cycle
This week, students will begin our Earth and Space unit by exploring the Sun and the Water Cycle. They will learn how the Sun provides the energy that drives the movement of water on Earth. Students will model the water cycle and describe processes such as evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and collection.
Helpful terms to know: Sun, energy, water cycle, evaporation, condensation, precipitation, collection, model
Students will continue learning about the Sun and the Water Cycle. They will explain the continuous movement of water above and on Earth’s surface and describe the Sun’s role as the major source of energy in this process.
Helpful terms to know: water cycle, evaporation, condensation, precipitation, runoff, energy, Sun, model
This week, students will wrap up their learning about the Sun and the Water Cycle by using models and diagrams to explain how water moves through Earth’s systems.
Helpful terms to know: diagram, model, water cycle, energy, Sun, explain
Students will begin learning about slow changes to Earth’s surface. They will explore how weathering, erosion, and deposition caused by water, wind, and ice shape the Earth over time.
Helpful terms to know: weathering, erosion, deposition, landform, water, wind, ice, surface
This week, students will continue studying slow changes to Earth’s surface. They will compare different types of weathering and erosion and explain how these processes cause gradual changes to landforms.
Helpful terms to know: erosion, weathering, deposition, landform, change, surface, process
Students will begin learning about weather versus climate. They will compare daily weather conditions to long-term climate patterns and explore factors that influence weather and climate.
Helpful terms to know: weather, climate, temperature, precipitation, pattern, atmosphere
This week, students will continue learning about weather and climate. Students will analyze weather data and describe how climate patterns differ across regions.
Helpful terms to know: climate, weather, data, pattern, region, temperature, precipitation
Students will begin learning about Earth’s natural resources. They will explore renewable and nonrenewable resources and explain how humans depend on Earth’s resources in everyday life.
Helpful terms to know: natural resources, renewable, nonrenewable, energy, conservation, environment
This week, students will continue studying Earth’s resources by examining how conservation, recycling, and proper disposal of resources impact the environment. Students will reflect on how responsible resource use supports the health of our planet.
