Eanes ISD uses iOS apps as one way of enhancing teaching and learning in the classroom. Eanes ISD utilizes the Student and Teacher App Catalog from JAMF Pro to provide students with vetted instructional apps for their school-managed iPads. Below are a few of the most popular apps from across the district.
Nearpod is an interactive presentation and assessment tool that can be used to amazing effect in the classroom. The app’s concept is simple. A teacher can create presentations that can contain quizzes, polls, videos, images, drawing-boards, web content, and so on. The students can access a teacher’s presentation through a code. It is up to the teacher to then move the class through the presentation and let them interact with the media as they go or offer the presentation at the students' pace.
Built on the 5E lesson model, STEMscopes Science combines research-based teaching strategies with the invaluable insight of real-life educators to provide a carefully curated, rigorous curriculum that both challenges and sparks the curiosity of students across the country.
Notability is one of the most versatile apps available for notes taking. You can type or write notes on notebooks and organize them into folders inside the app. However, it also lets you annotate PDFs, which can be great for grading student papers. Notability also records audio and lets you take notes at the same time.
Canva is a powerful design tool that can be used in education to create projects that not only look great but also help teach students the basics of digital design. Canva allows for image editing and project-based learning using a simple drag-and-drop interface that works well even for younger students. From brainstorming as a group working collaboratively to individual project creation, it has lots of potential uses in the classroom.
Teachers can use BrainPOP to introduce new topics into the classroom. Students can watch a video as a class and demonstrate understanding by completing ready-made mini assignments like responding to a quiz, making a concept map, putting together an auto-edited movie, or filling out graphic organizers or worksheets.
