About Miss B

Hello Mustangs! My name is Emma Barkley, but I go by "Miss B". Welcome to our Bee Hive! I am so happy you are here. I am honored and excited to be your second grade teacher. 

I was born in Ohio, but moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in the second grade. I loved growing up in Colorado and went to college at the University of Denver (Go Pios!). After college I moved to Dallas, where I began my teaching career and pursued my masters degree in Elementary Education through Johns Hopkins University. 

I moved to Austin three years ago and LOVE it! I am so excited to be in a city with such wonderful people, nature, and places to explore. I love taking advantage of everything the city has to offer -- you can catch me at a UT game, at Zilker Park for ACL, or even cheering on F1 races at COTA. I am mostly thankful to be closer to many of my friends and family here in Austin. Fun fact... my dad teaches at Westlake High School! 

My favorite things to do when I am not teaching are explore Austin, be active, eat delicious food, be with my friends and family, read, cook, and travel. When I'm not at school you can find me at Trader Joe's, in my garden, or in the sun. I love cheering on any sports game and going to concerts. Last year I started a new hobby - throwing pottery on the wheel. More than anything, I love spending time with my dog Stanley!

This will be ninth year of teaching, and my seventh year teaching 2nd grade. It is my fourth year teaching here at Eanes. I love working with kids and getting to know them as students and people. There is nothing more rewarding than building relationships with students and cheering them on as they grow and achieve their goals. I am so grateful to be a part of the Eanes family. Thank you for making EE such a special learning community. Eanes Elementary is such a special place to be. Let's have an amazing year!
