About Me

Hello, my name is Cindy McNicholas and I am the music specialist  here at Barton Creek Elementary. Music has been  a passion of mine since I was a child. I grew up in a musical family full of singing, dancing, and instrumentation.

I've been teaching music education for 36 years and I am  starting my 17 year here at BCE. I received a BA in Vocal Music Education K-12 at McNeese State University in Louisiana. I also received my Kodaly certifications in all three levels from Texas State University,  which was sponsored by Hays CISD.

I received a Master in Elementary Education and Administrative Leadership  in 2010 which was sponsored by the Eanes Education Foundation.

My love for music has been an empowering aspect of my life! I love to create and share music with my students and people around the world. Music is a universal language and connects us all. In 2015, I  taught music education and recorders to students and teachers in Nicaragua. In  2019  and this past summer of 2023, I had the amazing opportunity to teach and share my love for music with students and teachers in Kenya. 

I have two beautiful daughters, Carley and Hailey. Both girls  graduated from the University of Texas in Austin. Carley is teaching 1st grade and Hailey is our permanent sub at BCE.  My daughters love music, dance, and assist with our after school Show Choirs and summer music camps. We enjoy traveling together, watching movies, hiking, nature, animals, photography, as well as seeing lots of Broadway shows! 

I am looking forward to another fabulous year with our awesome Blue Jays! ​
