Hello CCE Families and Friends!
My name is Jennifer Matus, and I’m thrilled to be starting my 24th year (wow—already?!) in education, all proudly spent right here in Eanes ISD! I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Elementary Education and a specialization in Early Childhood Studies. I began my teaching journey at Bridge Point Elementary, first in the Special Education department, then spent many wonderful years in third grade. One especially memorable year, I took on the adventure of teaching kindergarten, which was both incredibly challenging and deeply rewarding (and yes, just as wild as you’d imagine)!
Eventually, I found my forever family here at Cedar Creek Elementary, and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of our incredible fifth-grade team. I’m so excited for another amazing year teaching Language Arts and Social Studies to our awesome fifth graders!
A little about my family: My husband, Lance, has also spent over 30 years in education and now works at a nonprofit educational math software company. Fun fact—he actually proposed to me in my classroom, with my students all watching and cheering him on (what a brave guy!). This summer, we celebrated 18 wonderful years of marriage!
We have three amazing kids:
– Our daughter, Meghan, is a junior at WHS and part of the sports medicine program.
– Our son, Tyler, is kicking off his freshman year playing football at WHS.
– Our youngest, Weston, is starting his first year at HCMS—just across the street!
And we can’t forget Toro, our lovable 110-pound chocolate lab who basically thinks he’s the fourth child. :)
Outside the classroom, I love spending time with family and friends, exploring fitness and wellness, and traveling to new places. I’m also a proud certified Swiftie and love all things Taylor Swift! Although I was born and raised in Houston, Austin has always felt like home—and Cedar Creek is where my heart truly belongs.
My mom taught elementary school in Houston for 38 years, and watching her inspired my lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. There’s nothing quite like helping students learn and seeing that spark in their eyes—it’s a joy and privilege I never take for granted.
Thank you so much for sharing your precious children with me. I can't wait to get to know your family and partner with you to make this an unforgettable year. Let’s make it amazing together!
Warmly,
Jennifer Matus
