Welcome 3rd Grade Families!
My name is Erika Miller. I was born and raised in the greenbelt community of Greendale, Wisconsin, and I am so excited to be back at Bridge Point Elementary School teaching another year of 3rd grade! It was actually my 3rd grade teacher who inspired me to become a teacher. Ever since being a student in her classroom, I've been passionate about learning. As a teacher, my biggest goal is to inspire kids to be passionate about learning as well.
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2018 with a BSE in Elementary Education and a minor in Creative Writing. After graduating, I moved to Madrid, Spain to teach first grade English. When I came back to the United States, I became a 4th grade teacher in the Franklin Public Schools in Franklin, WI. While teaching in Franklin, I held the role of Lead Launch Teacher for Project Lead the Way. This is my fourth year at BPE teaching 3rd grade.
After a trip to Austin in the summer of 2021, I fell absolutely in love with the city and knew I had to make it my "home!" Whether it's paddle boarding on Ladybird Lake, boating on Lake Travis/Lake Austin, hiking, trying new restaurants, shopping in the Domain, lounging by the pool, and everywhere in between- I love everything Austin has to offer!
Family is incredibly important to me. It's hard being across the country from them, as they are all living in Greendale still. I miss them dearly! It's important to me that I cultivate friendships and working relationships that feel like family.
My biggest passion in life is helping kids grow into the person they were always meant to be. There is nothing quite as fulfilling as seeing an "Ah-ha" moment in a young learners' eyes, or hearing the excitement from children who are challenging themselves. To me, it's very important that I make sure not only students' academic needs are being met in my classroom, but their emotional needs are being met as well. Everyday, we laugh, we sing, we dance, we talk, and we celebrate each other for being exactly who they are! I truly do feel so blessed that I get to teach, and I feel SO lucky that I'm teaching your kiddos!
I'm looking forward to an amazing year with the 3rd graders at Bridge Point.
