In order to assure that students master curriculum and to foster an environment where perseverance and resiliency are valued, students will be able to retake unit tests with scores lower than a 70. On other graded assignments, students who score lower than a 60 will correct it with their teacher to raise it to a 60.
Progress reports will be sent in the middle of each quarter, but only if necessary for behavioral or attendance concerns. Report cards will be posted online in Skyward every nine weeks. The first report card will also be provided at Parent/Teacher Conferences at the end of the first quarter.
Completed classwork will be sent home in the "Keep-Home" pocket of your child's blue "Take-Home Folder." We encourage you to sit with your child and go over their work with them. These papers are yours to keep! A weekly planner will stay inside the "Bring-Back" pocket of the blue folder throughout the year.
Your child will have homework on a regular basis in order to practice academic skills and personal responsibility. Math homework will be given on a weekly basis--assigned Monday, due Friday--in order to reinforce the current skill from class (new skills will not be included). Just as importantly, the week-long period allows students to develop their time management and organization abilities. The assignment and answer key will be attached to each Monday's weekly email to parents.
We also ask that our students are reading a good-fit book 20 minutes each night, which does "count" in their homework time. It is very important that children read at least 20 minutes each night. This article and image provide information on the research and logic behind the number: https://www.k12reader.com/why-read-20-minutes-a-day/.
If your child completes the math assignment in one sitting, their homework time (including reading) should not take more than 40 minutes. If it is consistently taking your child more than 40 minutes, let us know, and we will work together to find out the cause and come up with solutions!
Snack time will be each day in the classroom after WIN (10:15am). Please make sure your child packs a healthy snack. No candy, cookies, or drinks other than water, please. All snacks MUST be nut free, per school policy.
For lunch, nuts ARE allowed. We are in the cafeteria from 1:15-1:45 After Labor Day, adults are allowed to join for lunch! Visitors sit with their child at a designated visitor table. You are more than welcome to bring your child a special lunch, but please do not bring food for any other children.
If the need occurs, you must make the change on our district SmartTag system before 1:50 pm. If it is later than this, you must **notify the office** with either a phone call to (512) 732-9200 or an email to bpeattendance@eanesisd.net. Teachers can not guarantee we'll get to our email in time to notify your child, so ALWAYS notify the office, not us. Once again this year, guest riders are not allowed on any BPE bus.
