Advanced Learning Loans 19+
Are you eligible?
You are aged 19 or over at the start of your course
You are studying an eligible course at Level 3 or above
You have UK residency
If you can answer all these questions with a yes, then you are likely to qualify for a Government loan to help pay
for your course fees.
About Advanced Learning Loans
The Advanced Learning Loans have been introduced by the Government to support learners in further education in a similar way to university loans for higher education learners. Your household income isn’t taken into account, there’s no credit check and you won’t pay anything back until you’ve completed your course and you are earning over £21,000 per year.
You can take out a loan for the entire cost of your course or you can pay some of it yourself and take out a loan for the rest of the fee, subject to a minimum loan of £300.
Ealing Adult Learning does not receive any other funding for these learners and so the full cost of the course has to be covered through the loan or directly by you.
The loans are administered by Student Finance England (a Student Loans Company service) on behalf of the UK Government and you can find out more information from the Government website at www.gov.uk/advanced-learning-loans
How do I know whether my course qualifies for an Advanced Learning Loan?
Courses that qualify for loan funding are identified in the course guide or online together with the fee payable. If you are unsure whether the course you’d like to take is right for you, then you can find support and advice on the National Careers Service website at www.nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk or call their helpline on 0800 100 900.
More information on Advanced Learning Loans
If you need more information about Advanced Learning Loans, how they work and how to apply, please talk to a member of the Adult Learning Team at Ealing Council on 0208 825 5577. Please note that Ealing Adult Learning staff cannot advise you whether or not a loan is right for you or whether to take out a loan. You should consider all your options for funding your course and should also consider taking independent financial advice through the Money Advice Service. Visit their website at www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk
If you are in receipt of an Advanced Learning Loan, there is also a bursary fund to which you can apply for to support you with other costs such as travel, materials or childcare while you study.
We cannot give refunds if changes in your circumstances prevent you from attending, unless there is a medical reason and it is supported by a doctor’s letter.
You will be entitled to a full refund if Ealing Adult Learning:
Closes a course prior to its start
You are also entitled to transfer your fee to an alternative course instead of receiving a refund
You will be entitled to a partial, pro-rata, refund if:
Once the course is up and running there is a disruption to learning beyond the control of EAL, for example the illness of tutor, and it may be necessary to extend course sessions or course length to make up for class time lost. In these circumstances the tutor will negotiate a suitable alternative for all learners. If the outcome of this negotiation reduces the learner numbers below a viable level for delivery we reserve the right to cancel the course and a pro rata refund will be given.
If there are insufficient learners (minimum 10) on a course and the course therefore needs to be closed.
Refund of examination and registration fees
Examination and registration fees are only refundable on courses which have been closed by EAL.
Disclaimers
All courses include a £6.00 non-refundable registration fee.
The fees payable are those at the time of enrolment, which may supersede any that may previously have been advertised. Please note fees may change at short notice due to circumstances beyond our control.
EAL is not responsible for materials purchased by the learner either prior to or throughout the duration of the course.
EAL reserves the right to cancel or close course or make changes to days, duration, timing and venues. We will do this only in exceptional circumstances.
Onwards and Upwards!
As part of our service we aim to help our learners progress to gain employment or courses that will help them progress to further higher education.
After every course that is completed by our learners we will give you call to ask what you are going on to do and help establish if we can help with you progression or help towards a course that may help you gain employment.
