Our redirection can be your opportunity! EAA Chapter 34 in Arlington TX is offering for sale a (?) complete kit for a Vans RV-9A (tricycle gear). It is an older kit that is significantly completed. The original builder painted a few parts (empennage mostly), then placed the completed portions into a trailer on his property where they sat for a very long time. The wings are mostly complete, and the fuel tanks have been sealed. The fuselage is mostly complete, along with the empennage. The side skins on the fuselage have been removed (were only cleco’d into position) for access purposes. There are no avionics, instrumentation, engine, or electrical components included except for the light kit noted below. The included engine mount is allegedly for an O-235. All (?) fiberglass parts are present in an unfinished state.

Our chapter has decided to build an RV-12 instead of the -9A primarily to spur greater involvement from our younger members. The -9A, while a great airplane, has needed a bit too much remediation which has delayed significant progress. The firewall was completely rebuilt with new parts because the original builder used incorrect rivets. The starboard aileron has been rebuilt with mostly new parts due to a wavy trailing edge. FlyLEDs nav and landing lights (both new) have been purchased and installed into the wings. Additional parts and hardware have been purchased over the years as needed.

The ideal purchaser would have prior RV-line construction experience and would not be afraid to rebuild or re-form some of the parts based upon their inspection. Working one day a week with limited personnel (with frequent lapses in schedule) has resulted in frustrated builders and no youth builders because they'd like to see better progress. We are asking $21,900 for all materials and plans. Considering that the current equivalent materials from Vans are over $52,000, this is an exceptional opportunity to build the plane of your dreams!
