My husband, Jeff and I, live on an acreage west of Graettinger. We are empty nesters and enjoy our grandchildren when they visit from time to time. My husband works at ProCooperative as a Crop Specialist. I've been in the field of teaching since 1994. I have taught Middle School and High School Special Education in Emmetsburg since 2011. I enjoy working in an environment with specialized instruction and being able to know students in a more individualized way. In my classroom we interact with students in a small group setting to better serve their needs. Instruction is individualized at each student’s level along with accommodations to ensure success both inside my classroom and in the general education classrooms. At the high school level we are focusing on life skills, career research skills, job search skills, resume and interview skills, volunteerism, and work experience. It is important for students in my classroom to develop life skills necessary for solving a wide range of problems that they will encounter in the real world. Specifically, the high school special education program has developed a more concrete "school to work" curriculum for the students. Emmetsburg had been chosen in a pilot program called METS (Model of Employment Transition Site). Examples of areas that are taught include: personal goals, how to find a job, first impressions, being professional, juggling life, school, work, confidence, and future preparation. My objective is to give my students the tools they need to become an active citizen in the community and in the workplace.
