The Stephen Proctor Project is considering a book on the work and techniques of the aforementioned village carpenter extraordinaire. Currently, the best written coverage of Stephen's work is a short chapter in The Difference Makers (30 Contemporary Makers, 30 Remarkable Stories) by Marc Adams.
One concept for the proposed book (shown below) is to show "how Stephen makes this" for several key pieces. Art fans and collectors will get a chance to see the creativity and fine skill embodied in Stephen's work. Woodworkers will see how Stephen approaches these challenges and get ideas for how to elevate their own work, along with techniques and tips.
We are also exploring a concept for a wider retrospective on things that are hard to make, reaching back to include work in Wendell Castle's studio and beyond.
