This cabinet is the most advanced piece we have designed and made. It was inspired by the Pod buildings that are part of the Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art designed by Frank Gehry (in addition to that previous link, see the photo of our visit at the bottom as well). Those Pod buildings look like boxes that have been inflated and twisted, which echoes some of the great George Ohr pottery. When John saw them in person, he became inspired, then quickly transitioned to obsessed. The challenge is that most furniture relies largely on straight lines and right angles, and there is almost nothing straight or at right angles here. When the curved panels meet, things get very interesting.
This unique cabinet looks different from different angles, as you can see in the multiple photos below. The top and bottom are not rectangles, and that leads to an illusion of tilt as our brains try to map this onto a standard rectangular top. The drawers are skewed, not square, to make the most of the available space, and they also come out at different angles as the body of the cabinet twists up. This version is in ash, but other domestic woods can be used and made to order. Contact us if you are interested or have questions!
