Curriculum

Our English Language Arts curriculum this year consists of three main resources. These include:

The Spalding Method is a program designed to teach phonemic awareness, systematic phonics, and spelling. Teachers model, coach, and provide support as needed; students articulate, reflect, and explore new concepts. Careful daily observation of student progress enables teachers to differentiate instruction to meet student needs. Students see, hear, say, and write using all channels to the brain to enhance retention. All elements of the language are integrated in spelling, writing, and reading lessons.

Into Reading is a reading program we will use to teach comprehension, fluency, word knowledge, and practical reading , grammar and writing skills. Students will have access to high quality literature, and will interact with the texts in a variety of different ways to build their reading skill set.

Saxon Math is our math curriculum and is a teaching method for incremental learning of mathematics. It involves teaching a new mathematical concept every day and constantly reviewing old concepts. Every day students participate in math facts, mental math, problem solving, learn an new mathematical concept, and solve a variety of daily practice problems. The constant review of material allows students to master concepts over time.

Social Studies will be a new curriculum this year! We have adopted a McGraw Hill program that focuses on the third grade state standards, as well as supplemental resources for learning about our wonderful home state.

Science will be taught through a variety of online programs including Discovery Education, and Generation Genius.
