Our main focus is The Big Five!

1. Phonemic Awareness: the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate individual sounds

2. Phonics: the relationship between letters of written language and the sounds of spoken language

3. Fluency: the ability to read a text accurately with appropriate speed

4. Vocabulary: the words we must know to communicate effectively; readers must know what most of the words mean in order to understand

5. Comprehension: the reason for reading! Making sense of text - understanding what readers read
