My name is Laura Roosevelt. I have an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development. I have a Bachelor degree in Secondary Education, with an emphasis in English and History from Grand Canyon University. I have a Masters degree from Concordia University in Education Leadership. I have been working in the education field for over 20 years and have taught everything from infants, pre-k, junior high, high school, and college.

My teaching philosophy:

I believe that every student has the potential for individual academic growth. A solid education comes from an environment that is conducive to student learning needs. Such an environment looks like: A place where teachers are the facilitators and guides. Students are encouraged to explore their natural problem solving skills, innovatively think, and their voices are heard and respected. 21st century learning encourages students to learn competitive global job market skills . Thought provoking collaboration and discussions should occur daily to perpetuate the process in learning. Students are asked to apply their knowledge of standards to demonstrate mastery. When educators tap into the multiple intelligence needs of their students and the students are given the opportunity to take ownership in their work, intrinsic motivation and creativity take their learning to its maximum potential. Learning experiences should be engaging and memorable, so they are more likely to be retained.

A data driven educational environment allows educators to understand and plan instruction around the areas of need for the individual students as well. Timely feedback and the opportunity to grow are important in maximizing potential. Students should be actively involved in setting their own goals and aware of the progress they are making to achieve those academic goals.
