My name is Laura Roosevelt. I have an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development. I have a Bachelor degree in Secondary Education, with an emphasis in English and Historical Literature from Grand Canyon University. I have a Masters degree from Concordia University in Education Leadership. I have been working in the education field for over 20 years and have taught everything from infants, pre-k, junior high, high school, and college. My current roles in education include being an English teacher here at Valley Vista high school and I am an Academic Associate for the Mary Lou Fulton Education Department at Arizona State University.
My teaching philosophy:
I believe every student has the potential for meaningful academic growth. A strong education begins in a learning environment that supports student needs—where teachers serve as guides and students are encouraged to problem-solve, think creatively, and share their voices. In a 21st-century classroom, students develop skills for a competitive global job market through collaboration, critical thinking, and meaningful discussions.
Learning should be engaging, purposeful, and connected to real-world applications. When educators address multiple intelligences and give students ownership of their work, creativity and intrinsic motivation thrive. Mastery is demonstrated through the application of standards, not just memorization.
A data-informed approach allows educators to target instruction effectively. Timely feedback, goal-setting, and progress monitoring empower students to take an active role in their learning journey.
