My name is Denise Patterson and I have been teaching at Valley Vista High School since we opened the school in 2006. I am currently English 7/8. I have taught all grades of high school English since I began teaching in 2003. My love for education extends beyond my classroom. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication from California State University Long Beach, a Master of Arts in Secondary Education from University of Phoenix, and a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. I believe that learning should be lifelong and that there is always room for both professional and personal growth. As a parent of two sons, Jacob and Aden, I understand the needs of both students and parents. Please do not hesitate to ask questions and to be as much of a part of your student's education as possible.

I utilize an integrated approach to teaching in my classroom including theories and techniques from a variety of sources. I believe that all children are capable of learning and growing, but as individuals it is important to recognize their strengths and limitations. I do my best to recognize the needs of all the children in the classroom and strive to help them achieve as much as possible. My classroom management style incorporates the students' needs and wants in that I encourage all students to have a voice and to advocate for what they would like to have included in their classroom and in their assignments. Using formative assessments throughout the lessons allows me to monitor the students and to make adjustments and modifications to the assignments, the lesson, and the classroom format as needed.
