Menu Projects

For each time period that we cover you will be required to create a menu project. It must be completed before the end of the time period that we are studying in class.

You can choose any of the following ideas but you may only do that type of project once. Keep track of your projects on your Time Period Choice menu Checklist. Explanations for each of these are on this document! Project Explanations and Examples


Topical Political Cartoon- On a Single sheet of white copy paper draw an original cartoon relative to a significant topic from the current unit. Your cartoon must be easily understood and make a statement both graphically and historically. All cartoons must be easily understood and make a statement both graphically and historically. All cartoons must contain a caption that makes a statement and adds significance to the drawing.

Money Project (Templates below)- Choose a "'dollar" bill to create an illustrated bill about the picture on the bill. Include famous quotes from the individual, hand-drawn or clip art images that add meaning to your project. Attention to detail and creativity are a must for this project.

Janus Figures- Find persons or events within the unit that would make an excellent compare and contrast project. Use one of the blank janus figures (Templates below) to create your project. Include famous quotes from the individual, hand-drawn or clip art images that add meaning to your project. Attention to detail and creativity are a must for this project.

Topical Rap/Song/Poem- Pick a topic from the Unit and go Poetic on it. Make sure you include plenty of historical details and some witty historical analysis. Creativity and completeness are always appreciated for high grades. Your finished project should be about a page in length. If it helps, you may also go with the theme "Sung to the tune of" and rewrite the lyrics of some popular song to tell a tale of history.

Letter to...- Image you were one historical figure writing a letter to another historical figure in the unit who you DO NOT AGREE WITH (Like Jefferson writing to Hamilton or the Red Sox writing to the Yankees.) Write a one page letter to your adversary explaining why they are wrong and why your plan/idea/scheme is better for America.

Call to Action Poster- Pick a cause from the Unit and create a Poster calling for action. Pick a real historical event like Shay's Rebellion, the Boston Tea Market, etc. not some random idea bouncing around in your head please.

Topical one Pager- Select a them or quotation(s) dealing with a topic. Use the theme or quotes to springboard and explore your own ideas. The theme will guide this project. Use visual images, drawn by hand, cut out from magazines or downloaded from the internet to create a central focus for your page. Include quotations relevant to the person or period that you believe best represent the topic. cluster image(s) impressions, feelings or thoughts regarding what you have read or researched about your topic.

4-Panel cartoon- Pick a topic from the unit to create a cartoon like you might see in the funny pages of the newspaper, but this time it would have to be the History funny pages. Be Creative and make all the artwork and dialogue your own.

Setting the Table- Pick a major event or theme from the unit and imagine the major historical characters were sitting down to dinner. Who would have a place at the table? What events relative to the event could be represented on the table? Creativity and historical accuracy are critical components of this assignment. It can be completed on one page or expanded to cover to facing pages if you like.

Movie Poster- Create an historically based movie poster about an event or person in history. Pick a good subject, create a nifty title, select current actors you feel would be perfect for the roles.

Illustrated Notes 2 Pager- Take a topic from class lecture and create a two page spread in your notebook where you rewrite the notes and add illustrations and/or clip art to create a visual note taking experience that adds depth and meaning to your notebook.

An Invitation to an historical event- Create a foldable invitation card that you can glue into your notebook about a MAJOR historical event from the unit. Inside the cover write a short summary of why the person you are inviting should attend. Why is this important or significant. Include hand drawn images or Clip Art inside and out to add meaning to the project.
