School-wide Expectations
Academic honesty
Plagiarism includes the act of intentionally using information or property of another, or knowingly sharing academic information to gain an unfair advantage. To steal and pass off the ideas or words of another as one’s own. Discipline for academic dishonesty may result in a loss of credit for the assignment
Passes & Sweep
Students must be in class before the final bell rings or they will need to report to the sweep room.
Preparedness
Cell phones, hats and any food/drink must be put away before entering the classroom. Water is allowed.
Electronic Devices
The use of personal devices and headphones will occasionally be allowed during studio time as directed by the teacher.
Attendance
Students are strongly encouraged to attend class regularly. If a student has an excused absence, it is the student’s responsibility to complete any assignment, quiz or exam that was missed. When a student is absent, they have the number of days that they were absent to turn in missing assignments or take a test. (Example: If the student is absent on Monday and Tuesday, returning to school on Wednesday, the student would have until Friday to make up missing work.) As long as the assignment/test is accomplished within the time window, the task is considered to be on time; the student can redo the assignment/test.
School Wide Grading and Retesting Policy
Assessment:
Assessments will count for 80% of the total class grade in a course. Assessments may include: multiple choice tests, benchmark assessments, quizzes, writing assignments, projects, labs or any rubric based assignment.
Classwork/Homework:
Classwork and homework are the students' independent practice of skills and concepts learned in the classroom. Classwork/ homework will count for 10% of a course grade.
Final Exams:
Finals will count for 10% of a student's grade. Finals measure a student's mastery of all essential content for the semester. Finals may not be retaken. Finals are provided for students in December and May.
Multiple Opportunities to Show Proficiency
Students will have at least one additional opportunity available to show proficiency on given standards on summative assessments.. Additional evidence of proficiency may come from subsequent exams and override the original grade. Prior to collecting additional evidence of proficiency, a minimum of one of the following must occur: reteaching, intervention via small group, video instruction and/ or practice at home, tutoring, etc.
Elimination of Non-Research Based Practices
The following will not be factored into grades: Extra Credit, Curving and/ or Group Grades.
****Late Work*****
Points will not be deducted for late work, instead it will be annotated in the notes field in the gradebook and noted on the Report Card when needed. However, after two weeks have passed since the initial due date, late work will not be accepted and the grade will be permanently recorded as a 0.
