Meet Mrs. Garon

202402025 School Year

Mrs. Garon's Biography

I will be teaching 1st grade this year and am excited to join such an amazing 1st grade team. I am so honored to have a job that I love coming to each day.   I have taught a variety of grades and programs: 1st grade, 2nd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, 6th grade, and 9 years as a Title I Reading/Math instructor. I was alsoadjunct (part time) instructor at Estrella Mountain Community College. a few years ago.  As you can tell education is important to me.

I was born and raised in Titusville, Pennsylvania.(Home of the first oil well) I am the oldest of 4 children,2 boys, 2 girls.   Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) is where I  earned my Bachelor's degree.  My  Master's Degree as a reading specialist came from Clarion University in Pennsylvania. I began my Early Childhood Degree at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania.  Even though I started my teaching career in Pennsylvania, I have been a teacher in Arizona since 2003.

My family and I  moved to Surprise in 2003 from Titusville, Pa.  My husband and I are the proud parents of  2 adult children. Born in Pennsylvania, we could be nothing less than Pittsburgh Steeler and Pittsburgh Pirate fans, so  you may see us in our Black and Gold  jerseys on game day. We have chihuahua mix named Buddy at home.

Disney is a big part of our family's lives, and that is the reason I have chosen Disney as our classroom theme, specifically Dalmations.   Like many families, we have been to both Disneyland and Disney World multiple times. My husband and I started our married life with a honeymoon to Disney World in 1988.  We were honored to be the  Grand Marshalls of the Disney World Parade in 2008 for our 20th Anniversary.  We celebrated our 30th anniversary with a trip  there as well.

Of the many awards I have earned I am most honored, and humbled, by my inclusion in Who's Who of American Teachers.  I have been included twice in this prestigious publication.  Students that I have had in the past, that qualify for Who's Who of American High School Students or Who's Who of American College Students, are given the opportunity to recommend a teacher that they feel "made a difference" in their lives.  Twice I have been honored by these students.  It warms my heart to know that from the time they were in my classroom, to the time they graduated from either High School or College, they felt that I was a strong influence. I'm so honored!

In 2007, I  received the honor of being named a Dysart Teacher of The Year, an honor bestowed on me by the Surprise and Sun City West Rotary Clubs. In April of 2017 I received the Dysart Hero Award.  I have twice won the Dysart Heartbeat award as well.  I am honored to be included in these groups.

I look forward to an amazing start to our 1st grade year.
