About Mrs. Garner

Dear Students and Families,

I am excited to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Mrs. Garner, and I am the EL Instructional Specialist here, at Surprise Elementary School. This will be my sixteenth year in the Dysart Unified School District. My first seven years in the district I taught in both the first and third grades. For the past eight years I worked as a School Data Improvement Specialist. This is my first year working as an EL Instructional Specialist. I look forward to working with the teachers and students this year to have our best academic achievement results EVER!!!

The teachers on campus have a fantastic year planned. You will find that student learning will be both fun and challenging. The teachers and staff alike will work together so that all students may achieve their learning goals and ultimately prepare them for their future education. Our time together will be filled with new experiences as well as building on prior knowledge. Our classrooms will be communities where students will interact and learn with their classmates. Many new skills will be mastered this year in addition to continuing to work on reading accuracy/comprehension, mathematical practices, creative and structured writing, science, social studies, and much more.

Teaching has been a positive influence in my life, and I hope that the students' time at Surprise Elementary School proves to be positive as well. It is my pleasure to assist the teachers and students by providing them with the necessary tools so that all children may be independent, successful, and confident learners. You will be amazed at how much knowledge these kiddos will gain this year.

In order to make this the best year it can be, it is important that we all communicate. Parents and students alike should never hesitate to ask questions or voice any concerns. Also remember that the connection between school and home is essential for academic success (Parents please provide assistance at home when needed and be active in your child’s learning). Lastly, and most importantly, we want our students to do their very best.

I hope to see you at Meet the Teacher Night, which is Tuesday, August 1st from 5:00-6:30. If you are unable to make it, I look forward to seeing you on the first day of school (Thursday, August 3rd, 2023).

Sincerely,

Mrs. Garner
