Dongyuan Elementary School, Dongshan District, Tainan City, is located at No. 8, Dongyuan Lane, Dongshan District, Tainan City, also known as the former Dabu. The old name of Dongshan is "Jibei Shu", which means "witch". It is the former site of the "Duojie Society" of the Siraya clan of the Pingpu people. In the eighth year of Emperor Kangxi's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1782 AD), Han people entered the area and renamed it Duojie Street. During the Japanese colonial period, it was renamed "Fanshe". It was not until after the liberation of Taiwan that the name was changed to "Dongshan Township" because of the frozen "mountain" on the "east" side of the place. It is said that this township was originally deserted and overgrown with weeds. The ancestors from Fujian followed the Yanping County Prince to Taiwan and settled in the area. After the Qing Dynasty, it became part of Zhuluo County, and the number of residents gradually increased, and they intermarried and traded with Tongfan. Zhuangshe was established. During the Japanese colonial period, it was reorganized into the Fanshe branch of the Yanshui Portdianzikou Branch of Tainan Prefecture. Later, it was placed under the jurisdiction of the prefecture-junjiezuo, Xinying County, Tainan Prefecture, and was named Fanshezhuang. After the liberation, it was changed to Dongshan Township. This historical development can be seen slightly in the reform of the school's famous research.
The village where our school is located, Dongyuan Village, is also known as the former Tai Po. In the late Kangxi period, the Cantonese people’s footprints reached this place and formed a village called Tai Po Village. Later, it was named Qian Tai Po to distinguish it from Hou Tai Po in Chiayi County. Today, Qian Tai Po is divided into Dongyuan Village and Lingnan Village. This place is surrounded by mountains and forms a basin, making it a completely different place in the county.

The school was founded in March of the fourth year of Taisho (1915 AD). Principal Ujie Zhenji took over as the first principal. There were four faculty members, 143 male students and 26 female students, totaling 196 students. It was originally named Fanshezhuangqian Dapu Public School. It was renamed as Former Dapu Public School in 1922, the 11th year of Taisho. It was renamed Dongyuan National School after the liberation in the 36th year of the Republic of China. Later, according to Letter No. 32755 of the Taiwan Provincial Department of Education dated May 27, 1949, it was officially established as Dongyuan Elementary School, Dongshan Township, Tainan County. Due to the post-war baby boom, the school is located in a village. In the bustling market area, a Nanshi branch was established in the 45th year of the Republic of China. However, the branch was abandoned in the 63rd year of the Republic of China due to insufficient enrollment. In the same year, an attached kindergarten class was opened.
