About Contemporary Dance Wyoming
Contemporary Dance Wyoming (CDW) is a project-based cohort of professional artists creating bold work rooted in process through rigor, embodiment, and community connection.
As the resident professional company of Dancers’ Workshop in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, CDW serves as a bridge between education, professional practice, and regional engagement. Rather than operating as a full-time ensemble, the company brings artists together on a project-by-project basis in response to each season’s artistic vision.
Founded by Artistic Director Babs Case, CDW is now led by Artistic Director Francesca Romo, who guides the company in its 27th season with a vision centered on curiosity, care, and sustainability. Over more than two decades, CDW has collaborated with artists from major dance companies across the country, toured throughout the Western United States, and performed in New York City. Its work has been described as visually stimulating, highly athletic, and exhilarating.
Beyond performance, CDW is committed to mentorship, education, and access. The company engages communities through performances, classes, and residencies across Wyoming and the broader region, while offering emerging dancers direct mentorship through its close relationship with the School at Dancers’ Workshop.
At its core, Contemporary Dance Wyoming functions as a regional pipeline for contemporary dance—supporting local artists, attracting experienced professionals, and ensuring that dance remains a vital, evolving force in the Intermountain West.
