This is an introductory class offered to all grade levels. Students will learn the basic elements and principles of art and how to use them in creating their own artwork. Art and design related topics, concepts, materials, and techniques will also be covered in this course. Students will be exposed to various media including pencil, pen, color pencil, watercolor, acrylic paints, wire, clay, graphic art, and much more. Each student is responsible for keeping a sketchbook, in which they are encouraged to think creatively, as they develop ideas for each project and complete homework assignments.
Students took a walking photography trip around Dwight where they photographed various areas of town showing depth and perspective. They then build their skills up to explore color theory, depth and perspective in artworks, and realism to paint one of their photos. This is the start of their warm vs. cool landscape painting.
