This year, the project changed to focus more on my favorite aspect of the IB Middle Years Program — Approaches to Learning Skills! Even with another year of COIVD-19 challenges, students proved their skills in thinking, researching, socializing, communicating, and self-management. From graphic novels and poetry anthologies, to jewelry design and solar-powered cars, students used what they learned throughout the IB Middle Years Program to explore a wide variety of personal interests. More importantly, students learned about themselves in the process.
I am so proud of each of them. In the navigation bar above, click on "More" and then "Find a Student Project" to watch students explain their projects, read their papers, and to see evidence of their goals. Please join me in being impressed and congratulating them on the Shout Outs board as well!
What Is the Personal Project?
In the Personal Project, students produce a personal and creative product during Year 5 of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IB MYP).
Students demonstrate a synthesis of their learning in the MYP and engage in practical exploration through a cycle of inquiry, action, and reflection.
What Do Students Learn in the Process?
Through the Personal Project, students experience the responsibility of completing a significant piece of work over an extended period of time. Students reflect on the skills that prepare them for success in further study, the workplace, and the community, including IB Learner Profile traits and the Approaches to Learning Skills.
How Do I Navigate This Virtual Exhibition?
Click on Find a Student Project. Move through each project — just as you would in person by going from booth to booth — by clicking on the student's video explanation, paper, and product.
Each student is guided through the process
with the help of an advisor.
Here is this year's fantastic advisory team!

I’m so impressed with the achievements of my advisees and, indeed, the whole grade. This year, tenth graders took the “personal” part of the project very seriously, producing projects that showcased each of their sparks of genius. A graphic novel about the pandemic, a choreographed dance to Cardi B, and the beginnings of a screenplay for the fifth and final Die Hard are just some of the truly unique pieces students created this year. It's been so much fun to see these projects come to fruition!

It is such a pleasure to watch students plan for and explore their personal interests.

I’m so proud of each and every student for all of their hard work on the Personal Project. I really appreciated learning more about my advisees through their diverse interests and passions. I was so impressed with this group’s diligence and resilience throughout the entire process and also that no matter how they each got to the end, they all finished strong. I commend them for the amazing work they have accomplished.

I am so proud of each and every one of my advisees, as it's been a pleasure getting to know both them and the topics that they are so passionate about. Their sparks of genius range far and wide, from cooking and fashion, to film and finance. Congratulations to the students for completing this arduous process. I'm excited for the community to see your work.

I have been so impressed with all of the students' Personal Projects that I have advised this year. From athletic pursuits to literary endeavors, this group has been incredibly inspiring. The tenth grade is a class of inquirers and risk-takers. I am so excited to see how they will apply what they have learned during the Personal Project to their final years in high school!

It has been an honor to get to know my Personal Project advisees. I was so impressed by the variety of interesting projects they produced. Amazed that our tenth graders cook gourmet meals, produce cookbooks and food guides, analyze basketball plays, create original art and music, write screenplays, design and engineer Mars rovers, and code choose your own adventure games! It was a pleasure to watch them strengthen their ATL skills and further develop as IB learners.

I have enjoyed getting an extra year to work with the class of 2024. Their Personal Projects highlight the unique spirit of the class and their collective creativity, thoughtfulness, and determination.
