Required to take the Knowledge Test
You must enroll in Behind-the-Wheel lessons before you can take the Knowledge Test
Taken at a Minnesota DVS testing center
Student must be at least 15 years old
Bring: actual birth certificate, SSN/card, passport, parent/guardian, and application (or Farmers Permit Application)
Pass knowledge test and receive the Instruction Permit
First - 10+ hours practice with licensed adult
May begin after receiving permit
6 hours of instruction with a licensed instructor
Instructor enters "White Card" information online
15 of those hours must be at night
Track hours on the official Supervised Driving Log
Can be reduced to 40 hours by parent attending parent class
Behind-the-Wheel lessons do not count towards logged hours.
Must be at least 16 years old (farmers permit info)
Have permit for at least 6 months
Submit Supervised Driving Log
If you took parent class, present Certificate of Completion
Vehicle must pass safety check
Once you pass the road test, you now have Graduated Drivers License (GDL)
