A cell that bore my fate in time
A cell still thought askew
I left my body in that room
With days left only few
A cell that carried poverty
A cell that carried me
But it could not carry my family
And it dropped the only key
A cell that turned me plain as sand
A cell that burdened you
My sweet, good daughter Deborah
My picture’s left with you
A cell that still kept my name closed
A cell I’m bound to lose
I’d keep such causes away at most
And stray our penniless blues
A cell that saved a life or two
A cell that saves a hundred
A sickness that’s been brought to you
Can’t fight what all my cells did
A cell that now lives multiplied
A cell that was ignored
Seventy-something years ago
That cell made earth restored
A cell that once was pushed away
A cell that made me leave you
Will forgive the lives repaid
And the mystery solved for you
A cell that bore my fate in time
A cell still thought askew
Brought medics to the highest climb
And eternally is true
A cell was spelled H-E-L-A
That's Henrietta, dear Your
mother in every array I'm
immortally still here
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline is a captivating science fiction novel which makes us speculate about the fate of the universe and society. In the dystopian future, 2044 can only be described as a depressing reality, victim to an energy crisis, global warming, and pollution. The band aid solution to this problem is through the Oasis, a virtual reality simulator. This virtual world is a massive online playground which allows any person to do virtually anything, from visiting magical worlds to slaying monsters. In a world full of dejection and desolation, the Oasis serves as an escape from reality, a reality where the world is falling in on itself. Furthermore, I consider a bridge as something that connects two ideas, or places. So, the bridge in Ready Player One is the Oasis; the bridge from utopia and dystopia; from virtual simulation to reality.

Wade Watts: a kid looking for hope in a world of desolation, poverty, and ruin. As he comes across the Oasis his life changes for the better. My visual representation of Ready Player One both shows not only the destructed city where Wade Watts lives, but also this dream of a world, the Oasis. The reason I showed both aspects in my drawing is to really highlight the differences between both worlds. As I like to describe it, this is Wade Watts’s “bridge”. Wade is trying to seek refuge in a better world, but he’s crossing a bridge through reality. In my drawing I illustrated the city inside the headset as extremely advanced. Meanwhile, the world and everything outside of it is destroyed. I put a pair of hands on the Oasis headset to make it seem like the person holding the set (Wade Watts) would rather look through that lens alone, seeing only world full of advanncements and technology instead of a world of destruction.
