Mission: The mission of AWOD is to empower students to recognize and address all forms of prejudice and discrimination and to actively promote respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Activities Include: Discussions and lessons, to be held once monthly during ASP, in sixth grade classrooms beginning in November will focus on: 1) explicit and implicit bias pertaining to race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, culture, ability, and other aspects of human identity; 2) bullying and cyberbullying; 3) manifestations of the different “-isms,” such as racism, sexism, heterosexism, anti-Semitism, and religious bigotry; 4) activity- and discussion-based classes to empower students to recognize and address all forms of prejudice and discrimination and to actively promote respect for human differences. AWOD group meetings to plan lessons are held bi-weekly, before school, one morning a week.
