In reading we will discuss independent reading and cover five units:
fictional short stories, poetry, biographies, argumentative nonfiction, and novels.
In Language Arts we will cover proper grammar within our units:
narrative, literary essay, argumentative, and research based writing.

Kids will be reading a lot this year. We will be thinking about character actions, themes, and other aspects of stories. Students will write their opinions of these stories providing evidence from the story to support their opinions.

Unfortunately, many students have a negative opinion of poetry. By the end of this unit, most kids have a new appreciation for it. They will read and write poems as well as dig deep into them and discuss possible meanings.

Students will read non-fiction information about lots of topics. They will use their research findings to form opinions and display their rationale using argumentative and persuasive techniques.

Narratives are stories written about one specific event. It can be a real experience or completely fictional (as long as it's all believable).
