Downey High School library started in the early 20’s with some magazines and books and no circulation desk.
Until January 7, 1924, when the library staff met, drew up some rules and regulations, appointed librarians and officers to start working. This group of individuals was able to provide a better functioning library, so much so that the county librarian made them an example for the rest of the schools in the county.
Downey High School Library has served Viking students for more than 92 years. Since 1924, the DHS library’s goal has been to provide students with a variety of books, resources, and information. This is still the main goal for the DHS library.
Since 1924, the library has evolved much like its librarians.
