School Library History

Downey High School library started in the early 20’s with some magazines and books and no circulation desk.

Until January 7, 1924, where the library staff met, drew up some rules and regulations in regard to the library, appointed librarians and officers to immediately start working. This group of individuals were able to provide a better functioning library so much so that the county librarian made them an example for the rest of the schools in the county.

Downey High School Library has served Viking students for more than 92 years. Since 1924, the DHS library’s goal was to provide students with a variety of books, resources and information for students. This is still the main goal for DHS library.

Since 1924, the library has evolved much like its librarians.
