A Tradition of Academic Excellence
The California Junior Scholarship Federation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to recognize and encourage academic achievement and community service among students in California. Our sixth-graders are not eligible as official CJSF requirements begin in seventh grade and continue through middle school into high school as CSF. This program is unique in that students must earn the grades to qualify, and they must join every semester. Membership is not automatic, and every year at Doty we have over 100 students join CJSF. Our three-semester scholars have qualified and joined every semester that they have been able to do so as a student at Doty.
In addition to joining CJSF, the students are asked to be active in their school community. It is mandatory to do service hours on and off campus in order to qualify. Although not required, many CJSF students also give their time and talent to different campus activities such as ASB, WEB, PLTW - Robotics, Femineers, playing in one of our many sports, performing with Band or Choir, acting in a Drama play, or competing in Mock Trial… all the while maintaining the needed grades to be part of CJSF, and being citizens of character. Many of our CJSF honorees participate in more than one of the aforementioned activities.
Doty Middle School is extremely proud of our CJSF members! Keep up the fantastic work!
The number of semesters a student has participated in CJSF is represented by the awards received at the end of the year. Our seventh-graders receive a one-semester CJSF certificate being that this is their first time being a member of CJSF. Eighth-graders that have been a CJSF scholar for one or two semesters receive a different award certificate. Three-semester scholar certificates have an award sticker prominently displayed on each award. In addition to the award, three-semester scholars also receive a distinctive gold cord to wear at promotion.
AWARD CERTIFICATES/MEDALS WILL BE AVAILABLE TO 8th GRADERS DURING THE 8TH GRADE CURBSIDE DISTRIBUTION/EXCHANGE DAYS ON MAY 26 (girls), May 28 (boys), OR May 29 (make-up day).
